Patients’ Participation Group

Patients’ Participation Group

The Humberstone Medical Centre is focused on delivering precisely what patients really need, and we appreciate that much of the information we need to fulfil that promise needs to come from our patients themselves, which is why we set up the Humberstone Medical Centre Patient Participation Group, known as the Humberstone Patient Group (HPG).

The HPG consists of patients and practice staff and sets out an open forum for the discussion of ideas and developments within the medical practice.

The group aims to:

  • Increase patient participation in the planning of local health services.
  • Offer support to the relationship between the Humberstone Medical Centre and the population that it serves.
  • Campaign for improvement in local health care provision.
  • Lobby for the rights of patients.
  • Represent the patients on behalf of the HMC and the local health community in discussions with NHS Leicester City.

Progress to date includes:

  • Raising concerns with NHS Leicester City  regarding investment in local healthcare
  • Direct meetings with the NHS Leicester City Director of Primary Care
  • Simple but much appreciated initiatives such as live demonstrations of how the repeat prescription process and appointment system works.

Who can join the HPG?

If you would like to make a difference to your medical practice, have your opinions and ideas heard and be involved in future developments, then we would appreciate your voluntary involvement in the HPG. All you need is an opinion – there is no need at all for any formal qualifications – the only real qualification is that you are a patient of the HMC.

About HPG Meetings

Meetings are held at various times, including evenings and afternoons, so that as wide a variety of the population as possible can be represented. Meetings last about 90 minutes, are fully minuted and are held about every 6-8 weeks in the Meeting Room of the HMC. It does not matter if you are unable to attend every meeting.
