Chlamydia Screenings

Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease affecting both men and women.

Incidences of Chlamydia have increased since the 1990s and although there are often no symptoms, it can result in infertility in men and women, as well as inflammation of the internal sexual organs causing pelvic pain and ectopic pregnancy (abnormal pregnancy in the Fallopian tube rather than the womb) in women.

Around 10% of the young Leicester population has Chlamydia, and usually have no symptoms, which is why Chlamydia screening is offered routinely by the Humberstone Medical Centre.

Chlamydia screening is offered annually to all patients between the ages of 15 and 24 inclusive. The test is taken from a urine sample , and the confidential result can be provided by email, text or post.

Please ask the practice nurse or your GP for details, or simply use one of the testing kits which are left for your convenience in the surgery WCs. Or you may which to download a Chlamydia test form from our resources page and bring to the surgery with a sample of urine.
